Welcoming our 6th Grade Students
Please read below for important regarding information for incoming Grade 6 Students:
Welcome to Charles O. Dewey-Middle School 136! We are so excited for your child to join our Dewey Family this September. Please review the important information below as we prepare for the start of the school year:
First Day of School
Date: Thursday, September 4, 2025
Time: 8:20 a.m. – 2:40 p.m. (Students should arrive about 10 minutes early on the first day.)
Arrival: Students will enter through the Auditorium Entrance on 40th Street. Staff will be present to greet and guide students into the auditorium. Please note that parents will not be permitted inside the auditorium.
Breakfast is served daily in our school’s cafeteria from 7:50am to 8:15am. The cafeteria entrance is on the side of 40th Street (red doors closer to the corner of 40th Street and 4th avenue).
Uniforms
Middle School 136 is a uniform school. Students are expected to wear their uniform shirts daily with black or khaki pants/shorts.
6TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR BLACK Uniform Shirts
If you need to purchase uniforms, they are available both online and at the school. You can place orders through this link:www.smoothusa.com/ms136 .
If you ordered uniforms through the uniform company earlier this summer (6/1/25 to 8/3/25), we will be contacting families the week of August 25th to schedule a pick-up time.
Uniforms ordered after 8/3 will arrive the week of October 13th.
Lunch / Family Income Form
We kindly ask all families to complete the Family Income Form (School Lunch Form). This form helps schools receive funding for vital programs.

Transportation
OMNY student MetroCards will be distributed beginning the week of September 8, once they arrive from the Office of Pupil Transportation.
In the meantime, we encourage parents to review the travel route with their child to ensure they are familiar with their bus or subway travel to and from school.
Supplies
Our school will provide all students with a set of basic supplies, including:
5-subject notebook, folder, markers, pens, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, glue sticks, and a pencil case.
Each subject teacher may request additional supplies once classes begin.Physical Education uniform shirts will be distributed on the first day of PE class.
Yondr pouches (for cell phone storage) will be issued on the first day of school.
Orientation
If you were unable to attend the Incoming 6th Grade Orientation in June, we will host an additional Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 26th, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. We will share important information about our school and answer any questions you may have.
NYC Schools Account (NYCSA)
All parents/guardians must have an active NYC Schools Account to access student information. If you need support creating or accessing your account, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Ms. Duran, at MDuran21@schools.nyc.gov.
